TRAN's Vietnamese coffee holds around 180 mg of caffeine per cup, about double a standard drip coffee. Vietnamese coffee ranges from 100 to 180 mg.

A cup of TRAN Coffee Lab's Vietnamese coffee contains around 180 mg of caffeine, about double a standard cup of drip coffee at roughly 95 mg. Vietnamese coffee generally ranges from 100 to 180 mg per cup, and ours sits at the top of that range. The reason is the bean: our coffee is Robusta at 2.25% caffeine (22.5 mg per gram), brewed concentrated in a phin.

    Why it is higher

Robusta drives the difference. Most European coffee uses Arabica, which holds about 1.2% caffeine. Robusta carries roughly twice that, and our beans measure 2.25%. The phin also brews a small, concentrated cup, which keeps the caffeine in less liquid. See Robusta vs Arabica for the full comparison.

    How it compares

Our coffee sits above most everyday coffee. A cup of TRAN coffee holds around 180 mg of caffeine. A standard 240 ml drip coffee holds about 95 mg, and a single espresso shot about 63 mg. Vietnamese coffee in general ranges from 100 to 180 mg per cup, and ours lands at the top because of the high-caffeine Robusta.

    How the serve changes it

The drink style changes the taste, not the caffeine. Cà phê sữa đá and bạc xỉu add condensed milk and ice, which dilute and sweeten the cup but add no caffeine, so the drink still carries around 180 mg. Cà phê đen keeps it pure and tastes the strongest. The caffeine comes from the grounds, not the milk.

    How to make it milder

Use less coffee to lower the caffeine. Brew a smaller dose, add more milk or ice, or drink a smaller cup. Decaf Robusta is rare, so reducing the amount of coffee is the simplest lever. Start with our No Regrets Horse kit and adjust to taste; the method is in How to brew with a phin.

    FAQ

How much caffeine is in a cup of TRAN coffee?+
Around 180 mg per cup. It comes from high-caffeine Robusta (2.25%, or 22.5 mg per gram) brewed concentrated in a phin, roughly double a standard cup of drip coffee.
Does Vietnamese coffee have more caffeine than espresso?+
Yes. A cup of Vietnamese coffee holds 100 to 180 mg (ours around 180 mg), while a single espresso shot holds about 63 mg.
How much caffeine is in cà phê sữa đá?+
Around 180 mg with our coffee, the same as a black cup, because the condensed milk and ice add flavour and volume but no caffeine.
Is Vietnamese coffee safe to drink daily?+
For most adults, moderate intake is fine. Health authorities commonly cite about 400 mg of caffeine per day as a reasonable upper limit for healthy adults, so one or two cups sit within that.
